A financially strong and highly respected specialty insurance organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Investment Accounting and Financial Reporting team.

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant will perform accounting, reporting, and analytical activities related to the organization’s investment portfolio while also supporting broader financial reporting and finance functions.

This role combines technical accounting, financial analysis, and business partnership responsibilities, providing exposure to both investment operations and enterprise-wide financial performance.

The position offers the opportunity to work closely with finance leadership, investment professionals, external managers, and cross-functional business partners while developing expertise in insurance accounting, investment reporting, and financial planning.


Key Responsibilities

Investment Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze, and review monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting schedules and supporting reports.
  • Ensure investment transactions are recorded accurately and completely in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist with investment-related financial statement disclosures and reporting requirements.
  • Research and apply accounting guidance related to investments, financial instruments, and insurance-related transactions.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Support the preparation of GAAP and Statutory financial reporting deliverables.
  • Perform account reconciliations and analytical reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful variance explanations and business insights.
  • Assist with management reporting and executive-level financial analysis.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Support

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Monitor and analyze operating expenses and financial performance metrics.
  • Partner with stakeholders across finance and business functions to support decision-making.
  • Contribute to special projects, strategic initiatives, and process improvement efforts.


Ideal Candidate Profile

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation completed or actively pursuing strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of accounting, audit, advisory, financial reporting, or investment accounting experience.
  • Experience within one or more of the following environments:
    • Public accounting (Audit or Advisory)
    • Insurance companies
    • Asset management firms
    • Financial services organizations
    • Corporate accounting or financial reporting teams

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP financial reporting.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and researching accounting guidance.
  • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) is a plus but not required.
  • Exposure to investments, financial instruments, insurance accounting, or financial services clients is highly desirable.
  • Strong internal control and reconciliation experience.

Systems & Analytics

  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with accounting, reporting, or investment systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Clearwater, Bloomberg, CAMRA, Singularity, SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar financial systems is beneficial.
  • Interest in leveraging automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to improve reporting processes.
