Location: Metro Detroit Area (Hybrid)

Overview:
A leading financial services organization is seeking an Accountant II to join its Accounting Operations team. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of the company’s general ledger, analyzing financial activity, and ensuring accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP). The position involves preparing reconciliations, supporting audit processes, and analyzing both internal and external reinsurance transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of reconciling items.

  • Prepare monthly financial analyses and reports in compliance with GAAP and SAP standards.

  • Develop financial models and reports using the OneStream system as a core reporting tool.

  • Audit and balance accounting transactions across multi-company and multi-state operations.

  • Research and resolve discrepancies between ledger accounts, banking activity, and operational systems.

  • Collaborate with other departments to improve processes and enhance financial controls.

  • Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit activities.

  • Contribute to system enhancements and documentation to ensure data accuracy and compliance.

  • Process and analyze reinsurance-related transactions and associated financial entries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • 2-4 years of professional accounting experience, ideally within financial services or insurance.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and/or SAP accounting standards.

  • Experience with general ledger systems and account reconciliation processes.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet or accounting tools.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, including occasional overtime.
