The Role

The Director/AVP, Financial Reporting is a senior, high-visibility, hands-on leadership role within a growing life insurance organization. This position is designed for a financial reporting professional with deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and Bermuda statutory accounting. The role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enhancing the financial reporting infrastructure required to support regulatory and management reporting needs.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, pragmatic, and effective in a fast-paced environment, while consistently upholding the highest standards of financial discipline and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements on U.S. GAAP and Bermuda statutory bases, as applicable

  • Analyze financial results and trends, collaborating closely with actuarial, risk, investment accounting, and operations teams

  • Manage and coordinate all required regulatory and statutory filings

  • Contribute to the development of monthly management reporting and product-level financial analysis

  • Own and maintain internal controls and enterprise risk assessments, including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance

  • Coordinate with Treasury and investment management teams on reporting-related matters

  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and assess impacts; lead implementation of required updates

  • Research and interpret accounting guidance where treatment is unclear or complex

  • Support financial due diligence activities related to potential acquisitions, including balance sheet development and integration into existing reporting processes

  • Represent the organization, as appropriate, in industry forums and working groups

  • Assist with staffing, recruiting, and team development as needed

  • Perform additional ad hoc financial and reporting projects

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of statutory accounting requirements across multiple jurisdictions

  • Provide support to actuarial, treasury, and financial planning & analysis functions

Requirements

Experience and Skills

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in life insurance accounting under U.S. GAAP

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • CPA designation required

Technical Competencies

  • Strong U.S. GAAP expertise; experience with stock life insurance companies required

  • Familiarity with purchase GAAP (PGAAP) strongly preferred

  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly to senior stakeholders

  • Demonstrated project management skills and results-oriented mindset

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance near-term execution and long-term objectives
