Finance Operations Manager
Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid – two days onsite per week)
A leading specialty insurance and financial services organization is seeking a Finance Operations Manager to join its growing Finance team. This role sits within the Billing Operations Group and plays a critical part in the quarterly financial close process-supporting the accounting, reporting, and analysis of premiums, receivables, cash, and collections. The position requires a hands-on professional with strong technical accounting knowledge, analytical ability, and the capacity to collaborate across departments in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and execute timely and accurate financial reporting, including reconciliations and balance sheet analyses related to premiums, receivables, cash, and collections.

Prepare and review quarterly reporting schedules, supporting schedules, and variance analyses to support both internal and external reporting requirements.

Perform monthly reconciliations of sub-ledgers to the general ledger, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data.

Collaborate with underwriting, agency, and IT teams to research and resolve discrepancies in premiums, payments, and commission differences.

Partner with key stakeholders across finance and operations to streamline and improve the quarterly close process.

Prepare and review manual adjustments during the quarterly close cycle.

Support audit requests and assist in developing documentation to maintain compliance with internal and external audit standards.

Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to the development of more efficient workflows and reporting tools.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

5+ years of accounting, finance, or financial reporting experience-insurance industry experience strongly preferred (Property & Casualty ideal).

Strong understanding of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMPRODUCT, and scenario analysis).

Experience with Cognos, Power BI, Workday, and/or Alteryx is highly desirable.

Proven ability to evaluate, improve, and streamline financial processes.

Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
