[Hybrid] Senior Litigation & Contracts Counsel – P&C Insurance [NYC or NJ]
We are representing a confidential organization within the Property & Casualty insurance sector seeking an experienced litigation and coverage counsel to support complex contentious, advisory, and contractual matters, reporting directly to the General Counsel. This role sits within an in-house legal team supporting litigation strategy, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, and insurance-related commercial agreements across the business.
The position is well suited for a legal professional with deep P&C insurance litigation experience combined with strong contract drafting and advisory capabilities. This role is not applicable to candidates whose litigation or transactional experience is limited to non-insurance industries.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Insurance Litigation & Coverage Expertise
- Handling insurance-related litigation, including coverage disputes and contractual matters
- Advising business stakeholders on litigation risk, exposure, and resolution strategy
- Managing pre-contentious disputes and regulatory enforcement matters
- Corporate Contract & Commercial Agreement Expertise
- Drafting and advising on corporate contracts and business agreements
- Providing legal guidance on TPAs, distribution, and insurance-related commercial arrangements
- Negotiating significant commercial agreements and dispute resolutions
- Regulatory & Compliance Advisory
- Identifying, evaluating, and addressing regulatory and litigation risk
- Researching and interpreting laws, statutes, and regulations
- Supporting compliance and ethics initiatives
- Strategic Business Advisory / Stakeholder Support
- Partnering with underwriting, claims, finance, and executive leadership
- Translating legal risk into practical, business-oriented guidance
- Providing proactive counseling to reduce litigation exposure
- Litigation Management & Outside Counsel Oversight
- Acting as lead counsel on litigation and contentious matters
- Managing outside counsel and legal spend
- Driving favorable resolutions aligned with business objectives
Required Qualifications:
- MUST HAVE Juris Doctor & Bar Admission USA
- 10+ years of legal experience handling insurance-related litigation, including coverage and contractual disputes, and/or corporate legal experience within the P&C insurance industry.
- **Private practice experience is highly desirable**
Job Specifications:
- Salary: $160,000 – $220,000 base salary + discretionary bonus + wider benefits
- Work Mode: Hybrid (no remote option)
- Location: New Jersey or NYC
