A growing insurance organization is seeking an Investment Accountant to join its finance team. Position Overview

The Investment Accountant will support the accounting and reporting for investment portfolios that support reinsurance and insurance operations. This individual will analyze investment activity, support financial reporting, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and help ensure investments are accounted for accurately under both statutory and GAAP reporting frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support accounting and reporting for investment portfolios supporting insurance and reinsurance operations.
  • Analyze investment activity and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and completely.
  • Partner with investment professionals, external asset managers, and third-party stakeholders to reconcile and validate investment results.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of GAAP and Statutory financial reporting deliverables.
  • Research and interpret accounting guidance related to investments, financial instruments, and insurance-related transactions.
  • Perform account reconciliations, analytical reviews, and variance analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of investment accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives involving investment structures, reinsurance arrangements, and finance transformation projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation completed or in progress strongly preferred.

  • Experience auditing insurance companies, asset managers, banks, financial institutions, or other financial services organizations.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements and researching accounting guidance.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Exposure to insurance accounting, statutory accounting, or reinsurance.
  • Experience with investment accounting concepts and financial instruments.
  • Familiarity with investment accounting platforms such as Clearwater.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Workday.
  • Exposure to data analytics, automation tools, or AI-enabled reporting solutions.
