Astral Legal have been instructed by a Global Insurance company as they are recruiting a Legal Counsel to join their highly regarded in house Legal team. Ideally my client is looking for a 4-year PQE Lawyer but is open to higher or lower PQE levels, depending on their experience.

In-House – Insurance – Legal Counsel (Underwriting & Claims)

Astral Legal have been instructed by a Global Insurance company as they are recruiting a Legal Counsel to join their highly regarded in house Legal team. Ideally my client is looking for a 4-year PQE Lawyer but is open to higher or lower PQE levels, depending on their experience.

The duties of the Legal Counsel will be:

  • Provide clear, legal advice on a broad range of insurance and reinsurance related underwriting and distribution matters.
  • Handle regulatory developments, and business projects.
  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Legal, Underwriting & Claims in delivering legal work for the business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with a focus on legal commercial viability.
  • Ad hoc advice on contentious matters, claims coverage, contract interpretation, and legal aspects of claims handling.
  • Assist in training on legal and regulatory topics.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and promote the Legal team within the company.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, controls, and risk awareness.
  • Represent the Legal team in cross-functional initiatives and support group-level
  • Work closely and build strong internal relationships within the legal team.

The ideal Legal Counsel will possess the following.

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience but open to PQE levels, higher or lower.
  • A thorough understanding of insurance law and the London insurance market
  • Sound understanding of UK general insurance regulation relevant to insurance distribution and product governance is preferable
  • Excellent drafting and client management skills
  • Experience across Underwriting and Claims.
