[{"id":13123,"date":"2026-08-17T10:01:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T10:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oliverjames.com\/jobs\/manager-actuarial-risk-modelling\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T10:01:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T10:01:37","slug":"manager-actuarial-risk-modelling-13123","status":"publish","type":"job","link":"https:\/\/www.oliverjames.com\/en\/jobs\/manager-actuarial-risk-modelling-13123\/","title":{"rendered":"Manager &#8211; Actuarial Risk Modelling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A leading international life insurer is looking for a recently qualified Life Actuary to join its Group Risk Modelling team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This is a highly technical opportunity for someone looking to build their career across capital, risk and actuarial modelling, with genuine scope to develop and take ownership.<\/p>\n<h3>The Role<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You will work closely with senior actuarial leadership across a range of technical modelling activity, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>IFRS 17 liquidity premium modelling and calibration<\/li>\n<li>Capital and economic risk modelling<\/li>\n<li>Market and credit risk modelling<\/li>\n<li>Stochastic modelling and calibration<\/li>\n<li>Model development, methodology and validation<\/li>\n<li>Solvency II and balance sheet modelling<\/li>\n<li>Technical modelling projects across the Group<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the organisation&#8217;s growing APAC operations<\/li>\n<li>Working with and providing technical guidance to an international actuarial team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About You<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">We are looking for a recently qualified Life Actuary, or someone close to qualification, with a strong technical modelling background.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Ideally, you will have experience across areas such as:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Capital or risk modelling<\/li>\n<li>Solvency II \/ SCR<\/li>\n<li>Stochastic modelling<\/li>\n<li>Market or credit risk<\/li>\n<li>Model development and calibration<\/li>\n<li>R, MATLAB, VBA, Python, Excel or similar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Most importantly, you will enjoy getting into the detail of how models work and be comfortable developing, challenging and explaining technical methodology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">APAC experience is useful but not essential. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership, influencing architecture, mentoring engineers, establishing engineering standards, and leading modernization initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead the enterprise integration strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap.<\/li>\n<li>Drive modernization initiatives, including API-first architecture, cloud migration, event-driven integrations, legacy platform modernization, and DevOps maturity.<\/li>\n<li>Own enterprise API management, governance, lifecycle management, and cloud-native integration standards.<\/li>\n<li>Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of integrations across Guidewire, enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and third-party vendors.<\/li>\n<li>Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, engineering standards, mentoring, and technology decision-making.<\/li>\n<li>Build and develop a high-performing engineering team while managing priorities, delivery, and operational excellence.<\/li>\n<li>Promote modern software engineering practices, including CI\/CD, automated testing, Agile delivery, and AI-assisted development.<\/li>\n<li>Identify automation opportunities, including RPA, while partnering with teams responsible for enterprise AI initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.<\/li>\n<li>Experience leading technical engineering teams with responsibility for both people leadership and technical direction.<\/li>\n<li>Strong experience with:<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Enterprise integration architecture<\/li>\n<li>REST APIs and API management platforms (AWS API Gateway, Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, WSO2, or similar)<\/li>\n<li>API governance and lifecycle management<\/li>\n<li>Cloud-native and event-driven architectures<\/li>\n<li>AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform<\/li>\n<li>CI\/CD, GitHub or Bitbucket, Agile delivery, and modern software engineering practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Experience influencing architecture, mentoring engineers, and establishing engineering standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guidewire Cloud and Guidewire Cloud Integration Gateway experience.<\/li>\n<li>Insurance industry integration experience.<\/li>\n<li>Experience leading modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and legacy integration replacement.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with serverless technologies, AWS Lambda, and enterprise automation (RPA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideal Candidate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate is a <strong>technical integration engineering leader<\/strong>, not simply a manager of middleware or support teams. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role combining hands-on UK HR operations and employee relations with strategic business partnering across Finance functions spanning multiple international HQ locations, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll act as a trusted advisor to senior Finance leaders (Accounting &amp; Reporting, Tax, Treasury and Actuarial), while also owning the full HR generalist agenda for a London office population &#8211; from policy and ER casework through to recruitment, supplier management, and visa sponsorship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What You&#8217;ll Be Doing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategic HR Partnership<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Partner with Finance leadership to shape and deliver HR strategy aligned to business goals<\/li>\n<li>Lead performance management, calibration, reward planning and workforce planning cycles<\/li>\n<li>Work with Talent Acquisition to attract top Finance talent and support diversity goals<\/li>\n<li>Partner with L&amp;D\/Culture teams on training and career development pathways<\/li>\n<li>Drive retention through secondments, transfers and talent planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>HR Operations, Governance &amp; Business Partnering<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide high-touch generalist HR support to all London office employees and managers<\/li>\n<li>Lead HR-related change initiatives &#8211; project managing comms, manager toolkits, FAQs and stakeholder presentations<\/li>\n<li>Manage UK employee relations casework end-to-end, including liaison with external employment advisers on sensitive matters<\/li>\n<li>Own permanent and fixed-term recruitment for the London office<\/li>\n<li>Manage HR supplier relationships and contract reviews<\/li>\n<li>Own UK HR policy suite, ensuring alignment with global policy and best-in-class employer positioning<\/li>\n<li>Oversee HR administration and payroll-adjacent processes for the London population<\/li>\n<li>Own the visa sponsorship process, including monthly compliance reviews and SMS reporting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What We&#8217;re Looking For<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong stakeholder management skills across seniority levels and geographies<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to manage complex projects independently in a fast-paced environment<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical skills &#8211; comfortable interpreting data to inform business decisions<\/li>\n<li>Experience managing confidential and sensitive ER situations<\/li>\n<li>Background in change programmes and understanding of what drives successful delivery<\/li>\n<li>Strong HR communications drafting skills (comms, manager guides, FAQs)<\/li>\n<li>Solid working knowledge of UK employment law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a genuinely broad HRBP role &#8211; equal parts strategic partnering and hands-on generalist ownership &#8211; at a well-known, global financial services brand. experience within EPL or D&amp;O and 5+ years for the senior role across EPL and D&amp;O.<\/p><\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<div>You must have strong coverage and litigation experience.
