Oliver James are mandated by their global consulting client to assist in the expansion of their financial services facing risk & data analytics practice. Specifically, our client are keen to speak to candidates at Vice President / Senior Manager grade based in either London or Edinburgh. The basic salary will range between c£80,000 - £100,000 excluding bonuses, pension, flexible benefits and hybrid working arrangements.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Managing the delivery of client engagements, ranging from high value advisory work, through to large scale execution of data, and analytical transformation projects with our global insurance clients
  • Positioning yourself to best advise on an enterprise data solution to cater to the clients' and projects' storage needs and to enable batch and streaming data ingestion, transformation and analytics
  • Contributing to the development of innovative products and services that respond to market developments and the changing risk landscape
  • Supporting the development of reusable assets from ongoing engagements, from frameworks to utilities, and connecting with global engineering teams to harness our broader capabilities and knowledge
  • Developing the people around you to create a network of specialists we can draw from to support clients in their data objectives
  • Managing diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.

Your professional experience

You will bring at least some of the following business skills:

  • Extensive practical experience in data engineering and data architecture design, ideally around data infrastructure, developing batch and streaming pipelines, and implementing data warehousing and data lakes within the financial sector.
  • Strong planning, organisation and people management skills.
  • Understanding and application of Cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure).
  • Managing large multi-disciplinary teams and following agile delivery processes
  • Excellent commercial awareness and business acumen, including specifically a good understanding of data architecture, Information management, application of AI and visualization tools
  • The ability to identify client needs by supplementing the standard assessment techniques and tools with innovative approaches.
  • Demonstrate the ability to constructively evaluate and work in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience working with senior management to understand the data vision, review and recommend a data strategy that fits the client's profile and deliver complex solutions that drive commercial value.
  • Experience and willingness to work in the insurance sector, with knowledge of the Lloyd's and London Market insurance industry, and an understanding of their challenges and opportunities in the data and innovation space.

Preferred technical expertise - some of the following:

  • Experience designing and implementing event-based architectures with stream data ingestion and processing.
  • Exposure to data science tooling (e.g. R, Python, Alteryx, SAS, SPSS) and Big Data tools (e.g. Hadoop, Spark).
  • Experience with a number of data manipulation tools and languages (e.g. Spark, Python, R, Impala, Hive, Pig, SQL).
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Experience working with workflow management platforms (e.g. Airflow, Luigi, Dagster).
  • Experience designing, implementing or developing DataOps services (including monitoring, DQ measurement and alerting).
  • Evidence of taking a managerial role on projects delivering technical change.
