Associate General Counsel – Life & Health Insurance<\/h1>\n

Position Overview<\/h2>\n

A leading life and health insurance organization is seeking an Associate General Counsel<\/strong> to join its legal team and take meaningful ownership of ERISA and employee benefits matters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is a substantive in-house opportunity for an attorney with strong ERISA and employee benefits expertise who can apply that knowledge within a complex insurance environment. The successful candidate will advise business stakeholders and serve as a key legal resource on matters supporting group health and life insurance operations.<\/p>\n

Key Responsibilities<\/h2>\n
    \n
  • Serve as a primary legal resource for ERISA and employee benefits matters.<\/li>\n
  • Advise internal business partners on employee benefits and group health and life insurance issues.<\/li>\n
  • Provide practical legal guidance supporting insurance operations.<\/li>\n
  • Support matters involving insurance policy forms, agent agreements, and operational contracts.<\/li>\n
  • Partner with underwriting and other business teams on legal and regulatory considerations.<\/li>\n
  • Translate complex ERISA and benefits requirements into practical business advice.<\/li>\n
  • Support corporate transactions and M&A matters as needed; transactional work will be an occasional component rather than a primary responsibility.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborate with the broader legal team and business leadership on strategic and operational matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Qualifications<\/h2>\n

    Required<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Juris Doctor (JD).<\/li>\n
    • Strong experience in ERISA and employee benefits law<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to independently analyze complex legal issues and provide practical, commercially focused advice.<\/li>\n
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Preferred<\/h3>\n
        \n
      • In-house legal experience within an insurance company<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • Experience supporting a group health and\/or life insurance business<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • Familiarity with insurance operations, including policy form preparation, agent contracts, underwriting, and related business processes.<\/li>\n
      • Experience advising internal business teams in a regulated insurance environment.<\/li>\n
      • Corporate transactions and M&A experience is a plus, but is not required<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Ideal Candidate<\/h2>\n

        The ideal candidate will bring deep ERISA and employee benefits expertise combined with an understanding of how an insurance business operates. Prior in-house insurance experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience within a group health or life insurance organization.<\/p>\n

        This role is designed for an attorney who can quickly step in, assume meaningful ownership of ERISA and benefits matters, and become a trusted legal partner to the business. Transactional and M&A experience is helpful but secondary and can be developed over time.<\/p>\n

Due to the international nature of the client portfolio, both client communication and documentation will be conducted predominantly in English.<\/p>\n<p>In this role, you will investigate and assess potential risks associated with existing business clients. You will analyze, among other things, corporate structures, client profiles, and relevant risk indicators, with the aim of identifying financial crime risks at an early stage and documenting your findings accurately. Through your work, you will contribute to maintaining a complete, accurate, reconstructable, and consistent KYC file, while supporting the bank’s broader responsibility in safeguarding a sustainable, stable, and secure financial system. Familiarity with various business entities, including Dutch forms such as STAK, BV, NV, etc., is also important.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelors degree<\/li>\n<li>At least 3 years of experience in a commercial business setting<\/li>\n<li>Experience with writing EDR and PR<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with Dutch legal structures such as STAK, BV and NV<\/li>\n<li>Expertise in analyzing risks, complex legal business structures, and product portfolios<\/li>\n<li>Experience with KYC and CDD customer processes<\/li>\n<li>A broad understanding or affinity with a diverse customer base from various sectors is advantageous <\/li>\n<li>Corporate Banking knowledge is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, ensuring no discernible difference from native speakers, given the English-speaking client base<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical skills with the ability to differentiate between major and minor issues and make appropriate connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <strong>Interested?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would like to invite you to apply for this position by sharing your CV.
