Senior Investment Accountant \/ Manager<\/h1>\n

Location:<\/strong> Parsippany, NJ | Hybrid:<\/strong> 3 days onsite per week<\/p>\n

A global insurance and investment management organization is seeking a Senior Investment Accountant \/ Manager to join its investment accounting team. This role offers hands-on responsibility across investment accounting, financial reporting, statutory compliance and process improvement.<\/p>\n

Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • \n

    Manage investment accounting activities, including security accounting, valuation and subledger accuracy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Prepare and review monthly and quarterly investment close and reporting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Apply US GAAP, US Statutory (NAIC), IFRS and US Tax accounting principles.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Prepare statutory investment schedules, tax basis calculations and supporting tax reporting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Investigate complex accounting issues and implement corrective actions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Maintain strong internal controls and support audit and regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation and tools such as Power BI and Python.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Partner with Finance and Investment Management on technical accounting and reporting matters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Experience & Qualifications<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • \n

      Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or equivalent experience.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      5+ years of investment accounting or finance experience.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Working knowledge of US GAAP, US Statutory and US Tax accounting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Understanding of fixed income, equities, structured products and alternative investments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Experience with investment accounting systems and strong Excel skills.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      CPA, CA, ACCA or CFA preferred; public accounting experience advantageous.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Exposure to reporting automation and process improvement is beneficial.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Compensation:<\/strong> $130,000-$145,000 base salary, plus benefits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

experience<\/li>\n<li>Life \/ annuity \/ health insurance industry experience strongly preferred<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of US GAAP + Statutory Accounting Principles<\/li>\n<li>Blue Book \/ statutory statement experience highly desirable<\/li>\n<li>Strong Excel \/ MS Office skills<\/li>\n<li>Experience with an ERP system<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and communication skills<\/li>\n<li>CPA or improvement and cross-functional projects.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY SPECIFICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial close & reporting<\/li>\n<li>Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations<\/li>\n<li>Help identify and eliminate manual \/ inefficient Finance processes<\/li>\n<li>Support finance systems and ERP enhancements<\/li>\n<li>Improve reporting, data quality and financial processes<\/li>\n<li>Assist with automation and technology initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Support testing, reconciliation and implementation of new systems<\/li>\n<li>Help strengthen Finance controls and documentation<\/li>\n<li>Work with Accounting, FP&A, Technology, Treasury and Operations<\/li>\n<li>Support senior Finance leadership on strategic projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-7 years of accounting \/ finance experience<\/li>\n<li>Strong accounting fundamentals and financial reporting experience<\/li>\n<li>Experience with ERP \/ finance systems<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills<\/li>\n<li>Genuine interest in technology, automation, data or process improvement<\/li>\n<li>Strong problem-solving and communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Financial services \/ insurance experience preferred<\/li>\n<li>CPA or accounting to the CFO, this individual will serve as the primary internal tax resource, partnering with senior leadership, internal finance teams, and external tax advisors to ensure accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective tax planning.<\/p>\n<p>This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional with a background in P&C insurance to take ownership of a broad tax function, lead a team, and work closely with executive leadership on tax strategy and business initiatives.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>\n<p><strong>Tax Compliance & Reporting:<\/strong> Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance, coordinating the preparation and timely filing of returns, supporting schedules, and related documentation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Tax Accounting:<\/strong> Manage income tax accounting under GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), including tax provision calculations and related financial reporting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Insurance Regulatory Taxes:<\/strong> Oversee insurance-related tax filings, payments, and regulatory obligations, including premium taxes, guaranty fund assessments, retaliatory taxes, licensing fees, and other state-specific requirements.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Technical Tax Research:<\/strong> Research complex federal, state, and local tax matters, evaluate regulatory and legislative developments, and communicate recommendations to senior management.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Tax Planning & Strategy:<\/strong> Partner with the CFO and senior leadership on tax planning opportunities, business initiatives, cash tax requirements, and special projects.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Audit & Examination Management:<\/strong> Coordinate responses to tax examinations and audits, serving as a key liaison with external advisors, auditors, insurance regulators, and tax authorities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Process Improvement:<\/strong> Evaluate existing tax processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and potentially bring select tax compliance activities in-house.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Arrangements:<\/strong> Review and maintain transfer pricing policies, management fee arrangements, and supporting documentation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Cross-Functional Collaboration:<\/strong> Work closely with accounting, finance, legal, HR, regulatory, and operational teams on tax-related matters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Team Leadership:<\/strong> Supervise and develop tax personnel, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and oversight of compliance deadlines and regulatory filings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Qualifications<\/h2>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>\n<p>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; an accounting degree is required.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>CPA, Master’s in Taxation (MST), or other advanced tax credentials preferred.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>5-10 years of progressive tax experience.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including multi-state compliance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Experience with income tax accounting under GAAP; statutory accounting experience is preferred.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Prior experience with tax returns, tax provisions, and technical tax research.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Experience with partnerships and pass-through entities preferred.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>P&C insurance industry experience strongly preferred<\/strong>, particularly exposure to premium taxes, guaranty fund assessments, retaliatory taxes, and insurance regulatory filings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Experience coordinating with external tax advisors and managing multiple filing deadlines.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Prior supervisory, mentoring, or team leadership experience preferred.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with tax compliance, tax and compliance requirements.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve monitoring processes and optimize compliance rules.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Partner with investment professionals, trading, legal, risk and operations teams to resolve complex issues and support business objectives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Drive automation, data-led improvements and emerging AI-enabled solutions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Develop and mentor a team, setting clear objectives and building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Support governance, regulatory changes, audit readiness and the evolution of the wider monitoring framework.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What we’re looking for<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>\n<p>Direct experience in <strong>Investment Compliance<\/strong>, ideally within an asset manager or a buy-side investment environment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Strong knowledge of investment guidelines, portfolio restrictions and monitoring processes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Experience leading, developing and motivating a team.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A track record of improving processes, strengthening controls or supporting transformation initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Experience with Charles River, Aladdin or a comparable investment compliance\/order management platform is
