Software Development Manager

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team building the next generation of our payments platform. You’ll be a key player in shaping engineering culture, delivery processes, and technical direction as we scale our product across European markets.

This is a people-first leadership role – you’ll own the growth and wellbeing of your engineers while partnering closely with Product, Architecture, and senior stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of 8-12 software engineers across multiple squads
  • Owning the end-to-end delivery lifecycle – planning, sprint execution, retrospectives, and continuous improvement
  • Partnering with product managers and architects to define roadmap priorities and technical approach
  • Driving engineering best practices: code quality, CI/CD, testing strategy, and incident response
  • Acting as a key voice in hiring decisions, performance reviews, and career development conversations
  • Communicating engineering progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to senior leadership

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in an engineering management role
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate distributed or hybrid engineering teams
  • Solid technical background – ideally with hands-on experience in Java, Python, or a modern backend stack
  • Strong grasp of agile delivery, with experience running scrum or kanban at team level
  • Excellent communicator – comfortable presenting to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in a regulated industry (fintech, banking, insurance) is a strong advantage
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of managing software development teams.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and agile methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and strong analytical skills.
  • Outstanding leadership skills and ability to motivate teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
