Oliver James is currently partnered with an established P&C firm seeking a Staff Accountant to support its core financial accounting and reporting functions. This role offers hands-on exposure to both statutory and GAAP accounting within a stable, financially sound environment.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for maintaining general ledger balances in accordance with STAT and GAAP. The individual will assist with monthly close activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, and ongoing accounting projects, while ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Analyze and maintain general ledger account balances

Prepare and support monthly financial reports and accounting summaries

Assist with account reconciliations and variance analysis

Record financial transactions in accordance with STAT and GAAP

Support expense allocation and cost distribution activities

Apply applicable accounting standards and statutory regulations

Identify process improvements and recommend enhancements to accounting procedures

Participate in ad hoc accounting initiatives and projects
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
-
1-3 years of experience in financial accounting (insurance experience preferred but not required)

Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements

Proficiency with Excel

Experience with automated accounting systems
-
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
