Controller | Florida | Insurance
Oliver James is currently partnering with a high-growth P&C insurance provider in Florida to appoint a seasoned Controller to their finance leadership team. This role can be based in Boca Raton 3 days p/w on-site, or potentially, for a strong candidate, we can consider more remote working patterns.
This is a critical hire for a professional who thrives in the technical complexities of the Property & Casualty (P&C) space. You will own the end-to-end financial reporting process and serve as the primary point of contact for external regulatory bodies.
The Role
As Controller, you will oversee all general accounting functions and financial reporting for the group’s insurance and reinsurance entities. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will ensure the integrity of the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Filings: Lead the preparation and submission of all required filings with the NAIC and state agencies, including Yellow Book and statutory reporting.
- Compliance & Controls: Design and maintain internal controls and policies that remain compliant with both US GAAP and Statutory requirements.
- External Relations: Manage high-level interactions with AM Best, the NAIC, and state agencies (e.g., FL DOR).
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and develop a dedicated team of accountants.
What We’re Looking For
We are specifically seeking an experienced P&C Insurance Controller who brings a sophisticated understanding of the industry’s unique regulatory landscape.
- Certification: An active CPA license is required.
- Experience: 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a heavy emphasis on the insurance sector.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience with Yellow Book filings, statutory reporting, and managing AM Best interactions.
- Background: A mix of public accounting and internal insurance leadership is highly preferred.
