AVP, Reinsurance Accounting
A growing specialty insurance organization is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Reinsurance Accounting to join its finance and operations team. This role will work closely with senior leadership within Reinsurance Operations and will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end administration and accounting of reinsurance contracts.
This is a leadership role responsible for managing a team of analysts and ensuring accurate operational processing, financial reporting, and compliance related to reinsurance activities. The position will also play a key role in strengthening internal controls, improving operational processes, and supporting both internal and external audits.
The successful candidate will partner cross-functionally with actuarial, claims, finance, and reinsurance procurement teams to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of reinsurance-related financial information.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate with actuarial, claims, and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting of reinsurance data to senior stakeholders

Oversee and maintain reinsurance operational controls, identifying and implementing improvements where necessary

Establish departmental priorities and workflows aligned with broader organizational objectives

Manage and allocate resources across the team to ensure efficient execution of operational responsibilities

Develop a strong understanding of the organization’s reinsurance programs, business model, and operational workflows

Maintain expertise in systems used to capture and process reinsurance operational and financial data

Monitor and validate periodic reinsurance system calculations and balances

Prepare and support reinsurance-related financial statement adjustments during the monthly close process

Analyze and explain periodic financial results for assigned reinsurance contracts

Review and approve transactions, account adjustments, ceded loss notices, and billings prepared by analysts

Monitor ceded recoverable balances, manage follow-ups on collections, and oversee reinsurance premium payments

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Reinsurance Analysts

Communicate effectively with reinsurance brokers and reinsurers regarding operational matters

Partner with internal teams including Actuarial, Finance, IT, and Reinsurance Procurement on operational and strategic initiatives

Support and coordinate annual financial audits and reinsurer audits as required
Qualifications

7-10 years of experience within the insurance industry, with strong exposure to reinsurance operations

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field preferred

Demonstrated ability to engage and present complex information to senior stakeholders

Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding both technical and administrative workflows

Significant experience managing reinsurance collections and recoverables

Knowledge of multiple reinsurance structures, including Excess of Loss (XOL), Quota Share (Q/S), and Facultative

Familiarity with US GAAP and Statutory (STAT) accounting related to insurance and reinsurance

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; exposure to MS Access, SQL, or other data analysis tools is a plus

Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities

Proven ability to take initiative and solve complex reconciliation or operational issues

Experience with Sapiens / URS reinsurance systems is strongly preferred
