This is a rare, high-impact executive role for a senior technology leader with a software engineering pedigree and insurance domain expertise. You will challenge and elevate the company’s technology strategy, bringing an outside-in perspective to define how technology enables core business lines.

The successful applicants will have the following skills and experience:

  • Strong software engineering background and 15+ years in technology strategy/leadership.
  • Insurance industry experience essential.
  • Track record operating at C-suite level and influencing ExCo’s.
  • Former CTO of a smaller organisation with the desire to move into a larger, listed group will be prioritized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an Outside-In Technology Strategy: Gain deep insight into core insurance business lines (life, health, protection, distribution). Translate this into forward-looking tech strategies that challenge the status quo and drive growth, customer experience, and operational excellence.
  • Challenge & Elevate Technology Capability: Act as a constructive critic of current technology strategy, architecture, and delivery teams. Identify gaps, recommend bold improvements, and raise overall technology maturity and innovation culture.
  • Stakeholder Influence at the Highest Level: Present strategic recommendations and roadmaps to ExCo and Board. Build trusted relationships across business units, technology teams, and Group functions.
  • Drive Transformation & Innovation: Identify emerging technologies (AI, cloud, data platforms) with real business value. Prioritise investments that deliver competitive advantage and support AI-first ambitions.
  • Team & Capability Leadership: Provide thought leadership and mentoring to technology strategy professionals. Foster a high-performance culture focused on strategic impact over pure execution.
  • Benchmarking & Continuous Evolution: Regularly benchmark the organisation’s technology posture against peers and adapt the strategy to evolving market, regulatory, and competitive dynamics.
