The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Java Software Engineer to join a cutting-edge Trading Technology team based in New York City. This team is responsible for building and enhancing next-generation crypto and electronic trading platforms focused on performance, scalability, and reliability.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in low-latency environments and enjoy solving complex distributed systems and trading infrastructure challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-performance server-side Java applications for trading systems
- Build and enhance components related to:
- Order Management Systems (OMS)
- Market connectivity
- Real-time pricing and market data distribution
- Low-latency messaging infrastructure
- Optimize system performance, latency, and throughput in Linux environments
- Work closely with traders, quantitative teams, and infrastructure engineers
- Troubleshoot production issues and drive solutions through to completion
- Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making
Required Qualifications
- Strong core Java development experience
- Deep understanding of concurrency and multi-threaded programming
- Experience developing low-latency trading or pricing systems
- Strong Linux-based development experience
- Experience with performance tuning, profiling, and optimization
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in electronic trading or eFX systems
- Knowledge of zero-GC architectures and ultra-low latency systems
- Familiarity with institutional messaging protocols such as FIX or SBE
- Experience with distributed and fault-tolerant systems
- Knowledge of low-latency messaging technologies such as Aeron or 29West
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS
- Interest or experience within digital assets / crypto markets
