BI Developer – Manchester (Hybrid)

We are currently supporting a growing Specialty Insurance business that’s investing heavily in data, analytics and modern BI capability. The role:
You would work closely with the Head of Data Analytics & Insights, helping the business leverage insight from ideation through to delivery. The work is a mix of hands-on BI development, data modelling, stakeholder engagement and building scalable data solutions.
We are looking for a technically strong BI Developer to join a central Analytics & Insights function within a growing data team. This role sits in one of three analytics teams and is focused on business engagement, insight generation and delivering enterprise-scale BI solutions, not self-service reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain enterprise-scale BI solutions.
- Develop end-to-end Power BI solutions including front-end dashboards, DAX, M queries and semantic modelling.
- Build robust, optimised SQL Server data models and queries.
- Work within a Databricks environment (SQL/PySpark exposure is beneficial; training provided if needed).
- Engage directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand challenges and translate them into technical solutions.
- Support transformation initiatives, including data modelling, documentation and process improvement.
- Collaborate with domain experts, particularly within underwriting and claims.
- Produce high-quality dashboards and reporting that clearly link insights to business outcomes.
- Contribute to ongoing projects to quickly integrate into the team and deliver value.
What We’re Looking For
Technical Skills
- Strong Power BI experience (front and back end) – DAX, M Query, dataflows, semantic modelling.
- Advanced SQL Server skills (must be strong; key requirement).
- Experience working in a Databricks environment (or willingness to upskill).
- Ability to build enterprise-scale, non-self-service BI solutions.
Experience & Attributes
- Ideally some experience in insurance,.
- Strong stakeholder engagement; able to gather requirements and explain data concepts clearly.
- Experience with data modelling and linking BI outputs to real business outcomes.
- Curious, proactive and capable of operating in a fast-paced environment.
