Role Overview:
As a Business-Focused Data Governance Analyst, you’ll be the key link between Data Governance teams and business stakeholders, ensuring effective implementation and ongoing improvement of data governance practices. Your responsibilities will focus on aligning data requirements, governance frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and optimizing processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Governance Execution

Lead the identification, definition, and approval of Critical Data Elements (CDEs) across domains.

Oversee updates to the business glossary for accurate, consistent definitions.

Manage the data quality (DQ) lifecycle, addressing issues, prioritizing tasks, and conducting root cause analysis.

Maintain business-facing data lineage, ensuring it aligns with technical data lineage.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance Forums

Support governance groups by preparing materials, agendas, and status updates.

Track action items, decisions, and escalations, ensuring follow-up.

Serve as a trusted advisor to Data Owners and Stewards on governance best practices.
Process, Operating Model & Documentation

Develop and maintain governance documentation, including SOPs and playbooks.

Ensure consistent application of governance standards across the business.

Support change management and readiness for governance initiatives.

Analyze business processes to understand the impact on data flow.
Adoption & Enablement

Drive adoption of governance tools, processes, and workflows.

Provide training and onboarding to Data Owners, Stewards, and SMEs.

Track compliance metrics and support governance maturity efforts.

Identify gaps in adoption and suggest improvements.
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong understanding of data governance principles (CDEs, data quality, lineage, stewardship).

Experience facilitating business discussions and translating requirements into governance practices.

Familiarity with data governance tools, with preference for Google Data Catalog (but not required).

6-10+ years of experience in data governance, business analysis, or operations.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Management, or related field.
