Financial Controller – Life insurance

Controller – High-Growth Insurance Platform

Locations: New York, NY | Greenwich, CT | Charlotte, NC

Join an innovative, fast-scaling insurance platform backed by a highly experienced leadership team and substantial committed capital. This is a rare opportunity to step into a foundational finance leadership role and help build a next-generation annuity carrier from the ground up.

The Opportunity

We’re partnering with a rapidly growing life & annuity business that’s building a modern, tech-enabled insurance platform. They’re looking for a hands-on Controller who can own financial reporting, build processes from scratch, and play a key role in shaping the finance function as the company scales.

You’ll report directly to the CFO and work cross-functionally with actuarial, operations, investments, and distribution teams. If you’ve been looking for a role with real impact, visibility, and long-term growth – this is it.

What You’ll Lead

  • Own US statutory financial reporting for multiple life/health entities

  • Build GAAP accounting processes and support group-level consolidated reporting

  • Oversee and grow a small accounting team while remaining hands-on

  • Lead journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and process development

  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to ensure accurate, timely reporting

  • Communicate complex technical accounting concepts simply and clearly

  • Run the audit process and help develop accounting policies

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of US insurance accounting experience (life/health strongly preferred)

  • Deep experience with statutory reporting (Blue Books)

  • Familiarity with GAAP for life insurers (ASC 944, LDTI, etc.) a plus

  • Strong ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, etc.)

  • Proven ability to build processes in a dynamic, high-growth environment

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Leadership or team-management experience preferred

  • CPA is a plus but not required
