A thriving real estate firm in Los Angeles is looking for a Fund Controller to join their firm. Working closely with the Head of Fund Accounting, they will play a critical role in managing fund reporting and improving processes.

This role is 5 days in office.

The firm manages several $Bn in AUM and follows a value-add strategy, targeting underperforming or complex assets where operational improvements can drive returns. Known for hands-on asset management and operational turnaround expertise rather than purely financial engineering.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Fund Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations of multiple real estate funds. This individual will play a critical role in managing fund reporting, improving processes, and developing junior team members. The ideal candidate combines strong technical fund accounting expertise with a curious, solutions-oriented mindset, and a desire to enhance data, systems, and workflows.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations for multiple real estate funds with complex structures (including JV structures)
  • Manage quarterly and annual reporting processes, including GAAP financial statements, working closely with external administrators and auditors
  • Review and validate management fee calculations, carried interest, and waterfall distributions
  • Lead capital calls and distributions, cash flow forecasting, credit facility oversight and compliance
  • Oversee tax workflows in coordination with external tax advisors
  • Ensure compliance with fund governing documents and regulatory requirements
  • Act as a key point of contact for investor reporting and ad hoc investor requests
  • Partner with investment, operations, and performance teams to support fund-level analysis and reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA strongly preferred, but not a prerequisite
  • Around 8+ years of experience, ideally including public accounting with progression to leading engagements and experience in private equity and/or real estate fund accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with fund accounting systems
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and data capabilities
  • Naturally curious with a drive to understand, improve, and optimize processes
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally
