Head of Compliance – Insurance (P&C / Specialty)

We are partnering with a well-established, specialty insurance organization seeking a Head of Compliance to lead and evolve its enterprise compliance function across multiple U.S. jurisdictions and select international operations.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building and maintaining a modern, scalable compliance framework that supports a complex insurance platform operating across admitted and non-admitted markets. The successful candidate will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and act as the primary point of contact for regulatory engagement, governance, and enterprise compliance oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the enterprise compliance function across multi-state insurance operations, including admitted and non-admitted business
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain a comprehensive compliance framework, including policies, procedures, controls, and governance structures
  • Oversee regulatory filings, licensing, and state reporting requirements across all relevant jurisdictions
  • Act as primary liaison with state Departments of Insurance and other regulatory bodies, including exam management and regulatory inquiries
  • Own and evolve the compliance risk assessment process in partnership with ERM, Legal, and Internal Audit
  • Lead regulatory change management and ensure timely implementation across the organization
  • Design and deliver compliance monitoring, testing, and reporting programs, including board and executive-level reporting
  • Oversee compliance aspects of third-party relationships, including MGAs, brokers, vendors, and distribution partners
  • Support product development and business initiatives by providing compliance guidance on forms, rates, and regulatory requirements
  • Build and lead a high-performing compliance team as the organization continues to scale
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Risk, Operations, Underwriting, and Technology to embed compliance into business processes

About You

  • 10-20+ years of experience in insurance compliance, regulatory affairs, or related legal/regulatory leadership roles
  • Strong background in property & casualty insurance (admitted and/or surplus lines experience strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience interacting directly with regulators and managing market conduct or regulatory examinations
  • Proven ability to build or significantly enhance compliance programs in a dynamic or growing organization
  • Strong understanding of multi-state regulatory frameworks, including licensing, filings, governance, and reporting obligations
  • Comfortable operating in both strategic and hands-on capacities within lean or evolving teams
  • Strong executive presence with experience presenting to senior leadership or board-level stakeholders
