Director / Head of Financial Operations
Location: Greenwich, CT or New York, NY (Hybrid – flexible remote working)

Oliver James have been engaged to support a rapidly growing and well-capitalized insurance organization with the appointment of a Director / Head of Financial Operations to lead its financial operations function. Reporting into senior finance leadership, this role will oversee the day-to-day execution of core financial operations while helping build scalable processes, controls, and infrastructure to support a growing business.
The role will manage a small team and partner closely with Finance and Treasury to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of operational accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the financial operations function, overseeing banking operations, cash management, reconciliations, and accounts payable

Manage and develop a small team (2-3 professionals) responsible for daily and monthly operational accounting activities

Oversee bank accounts, cash movements, and reconciliation processes, including bank, administrative system, and balance sheet reconciliations

Partner with Finance and Treasury to ensure cash activity and related accounting entries are recorded accurately and timely

Support the monthly close process, including review of journal entries and reconciliations

Establish and enhance financial processes, procedures, and controls to support a growing organization

Maintain documentation of operational workflows and internal controls

Support external audit and internal control processes as required

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automate manual processes
Candidate Profile

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

10-15 years of experience in accounting operations or operations

Experience managing financial operations or accounting teams

Strong background in banking operations, cash management, and reconciliation oversight

Insurance, reinsurance, or financial services experience preferred

Experience operating in a growing or evolving environment is highly desirable

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
