Senior Accountant – Insurance

Job Summary

A well-established Property and Casualty insurance group is seeking a Senior Accountant to support general ledger activity, financial reporting and the month-end close process. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical accounting work, strengthening controls, improving processes and partnering closely with both finance and operational teams. The organization is headquartered in Minnesota and offers a highly flexible hybrid schedule for qualified candidates. Compensation for this role is expected to fall in the 75,000 to 95,000 range depending on experience.

What You Will Do

* Review and analyze general ledger activity, journal entries and financial data
* Support daily operational accounting including billing, deposits, collections, prepaid and deferred items and fixed assets
* Prepare wire and ACH transactions and assist with banking activities
* Manage escalated communication with internal teams, customers and vendors
* Lead or support complex account and bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
* Assist with financial reporting processes to support accurate monthly, quarterly and annual results
* Support accounting for multiple entities within a P&C insurance structure, including onboarding new entities as needed
* Execute month-end close responsibilities, maintain close checklists and ensure timely completion of key deliverables
* Use and validate reporting tools to support complete and accurate financial statements
* Contribute to process improvements and cross-functional accounting projects
* Support external audit requests and maintain strong documentation and internal controls
* Mentor junior staff on accounting concepts and system usage
* Handle additional duties as required

What You Bring

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
* Prior experience within financial services; P&C insurance experience is strongly preferred
* 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to the close process and financial reporting
* Experience across multiple areas such as AP, AR, fixed assets, banking or reconciliations
* Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, with experience resolving reconciliation or reporting issues
* Previous experience mentoring or guiding junior team members is a plus
* Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast paced environment
* Strong communication skills with excellent attention to detail and organization
* Working knowledge of systems such as Microsoft GP or Prospero is preferred
* Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control best practices
* Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, Power Query, Power Pivot and common formulas
