Position Overview
The Senior Benefits Underwriter will be responsible for enhancing underwriting processes by developing policies, procedures, and identifying opportunities for improvement. This role leads the evaluation and approval of insurance applications related to employee benefits. The underwriter will collaborate closely with teams across Specialty Sales, Claims, Operations, Finance, Legal, Risk, and Compliance to support strategic initiatives that drive long-term profitability in the healthcare sector.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and update underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Assess risk levels for insurance applications and determine appropriate coverage.

Review, analyze, and evaluate insurance risks.

Serve as a subject matter expert, advising staff on risk management, rating, regulations, and processes.

Ensure compliance with established underwriting standards, procedures, and regulations.

Oversee account servicing and support for brokers, in partnership with Underwriting and Sales teams within the assigned territory.

Manage the quarterly audit process, ensuring full and timely compliance while addressing findings and recommendations.

Collaborate with functional partners including Claims, Actuarial, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Compliance.

Lead and coach the underwriting team to meet overall company goals, partnering with Distribution to achieve revenue targets through both new business and retention.

Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to strengthen underwriting expertise within the team.

Maintain adherence to all compliance and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field.

Minimum of 7 years’ experience in health insurance underwriting.

Familiarity with the Kevin Ugan system preferred.
