Tax Executive
Oliver James is supporting a well-established organization in the search for a senior tax leader to oversee U.S. tax operations and partner closely with finance and executive leadership on strategic initiatives.
This is a high-visibility role suited for an experienced tax professional who can balance technical excellence with executive-level communication and operational leadership in a complex, multinational environment.
The Role:
The Tax Executive will be responsible for leading U.S. corporate tax operations, including tax accounting, compliance, forecasting, audits, and regulatory interaction. In addition to overseeing day-to-day tax delivery, this individual will play a key role in transformation initiatives, tax technology implementation, global tax alignment, and tax diligence related to business activity.
The role reports into senior finance leadership and works closely with executive stakeholders across finance, tax, and the broader enterprise.
Responsibilities:

Provide executive leadership over U.S. tax operations, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of tax reporting and compliance

Oversee accounting for income taxes across U.S. GAAP, IFRS, Statutory, and solvency-based reporting frameworks

Serve as the primary point of coordination with external auditors on all tax-related matters

Lead quarterly tax forecasting and the annual tax planning and budgeting process

Drive tax technology and process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency, data quality, and internal controls

Partner with senior tax leadership on global initiatives, transformation efforts, and tax diligence for strategic opportunities

Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators, and global tax counterparts

Oversee federal, state, and local tax audits and manage resolution strategies

Lead Pillar II tax reporting for U.S. entities in accordance with global accounting and tax guidelines

Manage federal estimated tax payments and intercompany tax settlements within the U.S. tax structure

Advise senior leadership on tax reform developments and emerging tax issues impacting the business

Communicate tax strategy, risks, and implications to executive leadership and other non-tax stakeholders

Ensure a strong internal control environment over income tax accounting, including oversight and sign-off responsibilities
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA required (Master’s in Taxation or MBA preferred)

12+ years of progressive tax experience within public accounting and/or corporate tax, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry

Demonstrated experience leading a tax function within a complex, multinational organization

Deep expertise in tax accounting, planning, compliance, and reporting

Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international corporate income tax; sales and use tax experience a plus

Ability to operate at both a strategic and operational level in a senior leadership role

Proven experience navigating audits, regulatory interaction, and executive-level communication

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical tax matters for non-tax audiences

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
