Reporting to: Head of Underwriting Governance
Location: Dublin 2 – City Centre
Type: Daily Rate – 6-month contract with possible extension
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance & Oversight
- Develop, implement, maintain, and oversee underwriting governance frameworks.
- Ensure underwriting authorities are reviewed annually and that onboarding processes for new underwriters are completed appropriately.
- Coordinate and maintain processes related to Right of First Refusal (ROFR), ensuring accurate records and compliance with agreed positions.
- Support the implementation and coordination of risk appetite and allocation processes across capacity providers, ensuring alignment with agreed parameters.
- Provide oversight and challenge of periodic premium income review processes.
- Conduct file reviews, thematic audits, and quality assurance activities, delivering feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Support alignment of business plans with governance requirements and risk appetite expectations.
Internal Controls
- Design and maintain underwriting-related internal controls, ensuring appropriate monitoring across delegated authority and binder arrangements.
- Collaborate with Actuarial, Operations, Finance, Compliance, and Risk teams to align controls and embed them into business processes.
- Monitor the effectiveness of controls, identify gaps, and implement practical improvements.
- Contribute to the broader internal controls framework, ensuring underwriting governance is integrated into the wider risk environment.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Produce management information (MI) and governance reporting for senior stakeholders and capacity providers.
- Enhance data quality and reporting processes, addressing operational reporting issues.
- Escalate issues, breaches, and emerging risks in a timely manner, with clear recommendations and follow-up actions.
- Track and maintain oversight of action plans resulting from governance reviews and audits.
Policy & Training
- Develop and maintain underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with business needs and market practices.
- Deliver training sessions and workshops to support understanding and adherence to governance standards.
- Support improvements to underwriting systems and controls to strengthen governance in day-to-day activities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with underwriting teams to support adherence to governance requirements while enabling commercial activity.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with external partners, including capacity providers, market bodies, and regulators.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment across control frameworks.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- ACII (or working towards) preferred.
- Strong understanding of specialty insurance classes and delegated authority arrangements.
- At least 8 years’ experience in underwriting governance, delegated authority oversight, quality assurance, or internal controls within the London Market or similar environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Ability to balance governance requirements with commercial considerations in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to handle challenging discussions.
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear insights and actions.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments, with strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing priorities.
