Job Title: Assistant Controller
Location: Dallas, TX
Medium Compensation: $160,000 base + bonus
Industry: Property & Casualty Insurance

A rapidly expanding insurance organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its newly established Dallas office. This is a high-impact leadership role that will not only support the company's continued national growth but will also play a pivotal role in shaping the culture and operational framework of a new regional headquarters.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, and oversight of accounting operations. This position will lead a team of finance professionals and collaborate closely with senior leadership across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes in accordance with US GAAP and SSAP.

  • Ensure full compliance with insurance industry regulations, including statutory filings, tax reporting, and solvency requirements.

  • Oversee regulatory submissions including those to the NAIC and other governing bodies.

  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure readiness for both internal and external audits.

  • Manage reinsurance reporting functions.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Direct and mentor a team of accountants, promoting a culture of accountability, development, and high performance.

  • Work cross-functionally with actuarial, underwriting, and operational teams to align financial goals and processes.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance team capabilities and drive continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and regulatory examiners.

  • Partner with internal leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA,MBA or CMA highly regarded.

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.

  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SSAP) specific to the property & casualty insurance sector.

  • Strong working knowledge of insurance financial systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite, SAP, or industry-specific platforms).

  • Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams.

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; strong analytical mindset.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

  • High standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
