Job Title: Assistant Controller

Medium Compensation: $160,000 base + bonus

A rapidly expanding insurance organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its newly established Dallas office. This is a high-impact leadership role that will not only support the company's continued national growth but will also play a pivotal role in shaping the culture and operational framework of a new regional headquarters.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, and oversight of accounting operations. This position will lead a team of finance professionals and collaborate closely with senior leadership across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes in accordance with US GAAP and SSAP.
Ensure full compliance with insurance industry regulations, including statutory filings, tax reporting, and solvency requirements.
Oversee regulatory submissions including those to the NAIC and other governing bodies.
Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure readiness for both internal and external audits.
Manage reinsurance reporting functions.
Leadership & Collaboration
Direct and mentor a team of accountants, promoting a culture of accountability, development, and high performance.
Work cross-functionally with actuarial, underwriting, and operational teams to align financial goals and processes.
Identify opportunities to enhance team capabilities and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and regulatory examiners.
Partner with internal leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA,MBA or CMA highly regarded.
5-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
Deep knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SSAP) specific to the property & casualty insurance sector.
Strong working knowledge of insurance financial systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite, SAP, or industry-specific platforms).
Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; strong analytical mindset.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
High standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
