Position: Legal and Compliance Counsel
Employment Type: Full Time

A prominent organization operating in the life (re)insurance space, with a strong focus on in-force transactions, annuities, and life insurance operations. The company supports clients in managing risk, capital, and operational strategies across underwriting, product development, and new business models. With substantial expertise and resources, the firm is capable of executing and overseeing some of the largest transactions in its market segment.


Position Summary:

This role is responsible for delivering expert legal advice and compliance support across a variety of operational areas. The successful candidate will be a strategic partner to leadership and cross-functional departments, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements while contributing to enterprise risk management. The position reports to the Head of Compliance and Litigation and collaborates with stakeholders across cybersecurity, privacy, fraud prevention, vendor management, market conduct, and product development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance the firm's compliance policies, introducing new protocols to address emerging regulatory issues.

  • Provide legal counsel related to data protection, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy, anti-money laundering (AML), fraud, and related operational matters.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with evolving local, state, and federal regulations, including legal research and policy updates.

  • Partner with compliance staff across multiple locations to support effective oversight and process alignment.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a corporate legal department or law firm advising regulated entities.

  • Background in life insurance products and operations is preferred.


Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.

  • Active bar membership in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
