My client, a top Private Credit Asset Manager is looking for a Controller to join their expanding team to handle internal management of the fund accounting team. Our client works on a hybrid basis in downtown Chicago, offers competitive compensation, comprehensive health, PTO and retirement benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of accountants, providing guidance to ensure smooth and efficient financial operations.

  • Oversee the preparation and review of private credit financial statements and related reports, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage the annual audit process and quarterly reviews with external auditors to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Prepare materials for internal stakeholders, including senior management and investment teams, to support decision-making.

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with financial reporting standards, including SOX 404 requirements.

  • Monitor and stay updated on evolving accounting guidance relevant to private credit and ensure proper application of US GAAP.

  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Treasury, Operations, Tax, and Portfolio Monitoring to support financial reporting and operational needs.

  • Maintain strong relationships with external service providers (e.g., fund administrators, auditors, transfer agents) to ensure smooth operations and accurate reporting.

  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiencies in financial processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (advanced degree is a plus).

  • CPA preferred.

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in financial services, specifically in private credit, private equity, or a related field.

  • Strong experience with financial reporting, audits, and compliance within private credit or similar alternative investments.

  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., general ledger systems, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with private credit reporting tools is a plus.

  • Proven leadership experience in managing high-performing teams.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable working in-office and contributing to a hybrid work culture.
