Job Title: Senior Accountant - Statutory Reporting
An experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant is sought to join the Finance team of a leading organization, focusing on statutory reporting and financial close processes. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting under both statutory (NAIC) and U.S. GAAP frameworks. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of insurance accounting, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly management reports and quarterly/annual statutory financial statements, including footnotes, exhibits, and schedules.
Contribute to NAIC filings, including Annual and Quarterly Statements, and manage additional state compliance requirements.
Participate in monthly U.S. GAAP and statutory close processes, including journal entries, reserve calculations, reconciliations, and statutory adjustments.
Maintain and utilize statutory reporting software (e.g., Gains) to ensure accuracy and efficiency in reporting.
Manage the state filing process: maintain and track state-by-state checklists, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
Research and document technical accounting issues related to statutory reporting.
Support interim and year-end statutory and GAAP audits, internal audits, regulator inquiries, and examinations.
Maintain and enhance internal controls supporting financial integrity and compliance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and improve reporting operations.
Lead or support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 4 years in statutory reporting for the insurance industry; life/annuity experience is preferred.
Proficiency in U.S. statutory accounting principles (SAP) and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and communicate insights effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial concepts clearly to various audiences.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and collaborating across teams
