Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid)
A leading insurance organization is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting to join their finance team. This individual will support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles and manage the preparation and filing of financial reports in accordance with both GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP). The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, insurance industry experience, and the ability to work collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and record monthly journal entries related to insurance operations and corporate consolidations.
Analyze and reconcile key general ledger accounts.
Support accounting functions related to premiums, commissions, loss reserves, reinsurance, and other insurance-specific activities.
Maintain stand-alone financial statements for multiple legal entities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SAP.
Assist in the timely preparation and filing of quarterly and annual financial statements and regulatory submissions.
Perform monthly allocations and investment-in-subsidiary calculations within Workday.
Coordinate with external advisors for purchase accounting and goodwill impairment analyses.
Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
Support state and regulatory filings, monitor changes in filing requirements, and contribute to compliance efforts.
Stay current on changes in GAAP and SAP, and assist with drafting and implementing updated accounting policies.
Maintain accurate task logs and deadlines using BlackLine or other tools.
Contribute to process documentation and ongoing improvements in reporting and controls.
Draft and refine policies and procedures that enhance the control environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA or other professional designation preferred.
Minimum of 6 years of accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably in the property & casualty insurance sector.
Solid understanding of both NAIC statutory accounting (SAP) and US GAAP.
Experience with Workday Financials and BlackLine is highly preferred.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with other Microsoft Office tools is essential.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
