A leading organization in the life (re)insurance industry is seeking a Senior Investment Accountant to support the accounting and reporting of its investment portfolio across multiple legal entities. Known for its strong reputation in in-force transactions, product development, and innovative underwriting strategies, this firm offers the resources and expertise to manage large-scale life and annuity portfolios.
Position Summary:
The Senior Investment Accountant will be responsible for the preparation, review, and analysis of investment-related financial statements and reports on both a U.S. GAAP and statutory basis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review investment accounting reports, financial statements, and disclosures in accordance with US GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Coordinate monthly and quarterly deliverables with a third-party investment accounting provider, ensuring data integrity and timeliness.
Reconcile investment balances, receivables, and suspense accounts.
Analyze and report investment portfolio activity across various asset classes, including limited partnerships.
Support international reporting requirements, including coordination with Bermuda-based operations and regulatory bodies.
Prepare internal reporting for senior management, the Investment Committee, and the Board of Directors.
Handle regulatory and auditor requests related to investment reporting.
Review and track investment-related expenses, including asset manager fees.
Maintain state deposits and ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements.
Lead or contribute to special projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to investment accounting processes.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in investment or insurance-related roles.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and tax basis investment accounting.
Familiarity with life insurance RBC requirements is preferred.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a remote environment.
Proactive mindset with an interest in process improvement and automation.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in the insurance industry.
Familiarity with investment accounting platforms such as Clearwater Analytics.
Experience with financial statement preparation tools like Gain Compliance.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
