Windows System Engineer - Automation / VMware / PowerShell - Lucerne (Hybrid) - German & English Speaking
We're hiring an experienced Windows System Engineer to support the development and operation of a large-scale, modern backend infrastructure in Central Switzerland. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on critical automation projects and optimise systems supporting over 800 virtual servers.
You'll be part of a forward-thinking IT team that's embracing new technologies and shaping the digital backbone of a large enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Automate Infrastructure:
Design, implement, and maintain automated processes to streamline backend operations using PowerShell, VMware vRA, and modern scripting tools.
Maintain & Evolve Systems:
Take ownership of a VMware-based environment (vSphere, NSX), optimising performance and ensuring stability across Windows Server platforms.
Support & Troubleshooting:
Act as a key point of contact for internal teams and partners, providing expert-level 2nd and 3rd line support and resolving complex system issues efficiently.
Project Involvement:
Contribute to new application rollouts and infrastructure upgrade projects, ensuring they are delivered with high availability, performance, and security in mind.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Support internal teams through clear documentation, knowledge transfers, and training. Participate in on-call rotations and occasional special assignments.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience:
4+ years in a data center or backend infrastructure environment, with strong practical knowledge of Windows Server, VMware (vSphere, vRA, NSX), and enterprise-grade IT environments.
Automation Skills:
Proficient in PowerShell scripting and familiar with automation tools used in modern infrastructure (e.g. vRA, PowerCLI, APIs).
Certifications (Preferred):
VCP, MCSE, ITILv4, SAFe - a university degree in computer science is a plus.
Languages:
Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
Mindset:
Analytical, structured, and highly motivated. Willing to take responsibility and support team development. Experience or interest in mentoring apprentices is a bonus.
