Assistant Controller - Insurance Industry

We're working with a dynamic and expanding insurance company that's looking to add an Assistant Controller to their finance leadership team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in statutory reporting and GAAP, experience managing audits, and a passion for building high-performing teams.
What You'll Be Doing:
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process - ensuring accuracy across both GAAP and statutory financials
Lead and develop a small team of accounting professionals
Oversee internal controls and support audit readiness (internal and external)
Manage regulatory filings including NAIC submissions and other insurance-specific compliance requirements
Collaborate with actuarial, tax, and other cross-functional teams to drive transparency and meet strategic objectives
Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies
Contribute to financial performance analysis and special projects as needed
What They're Looking For:
Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
5-10+ years of experience in P&C insurance accounting or financial reporting
3+ years of leadership experience (Manager or above)
Strong understanding of GAAP and STAT
Experience working with enterprise systems (SAP, Intacct, Oracle, or similar)
Confident communicator who's comfortable working with senior leadership and external stakeholders
Organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
