Head of Accounting Policy - Life & Annuity Insurance (Confidential Client)

We've partnered with a fast-growing and highly innovative life and annuity insurance company that is looking to add a Head of Accounting Policy to its leadership team. This is a pivotal role for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic, change-oriented environment and wants to play a hands-on role in shaping the company's accounting framework as it scales.

Our client is a privately backed carrier experiencing significant growth across product lines and distribution channels. They've assembled a highly experienced leadership team and are building a modern insurance platform that blends strong risk management with agility and innovation. As the organization continues to grow, they are seeking a strong technical accounting leader who can provide structure and guidance around accounting policies and regulatory reporting.
The Role:
As Head of Accounting Policy, you will report directly to the Group Controller and work cross-functionally with finance, actuarial, legal, risk, and external auditors. You'll be responsible for interpreting and implementing U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting guidance, supporting new product development, and leading the company's response to evolving insurance accounting standards (including LDTI).
This is a highly visible role where your technical knowledge and communication skills will influence executive-level decisions and support strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the internal expert on U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting guidance, with a focus on insurance and reinsurance-related transactions
Lead implementation and ongoing compliance with new accounting standards, including LDTI and other emerging pronouncements
Partner with product development and reinsurance teams to evaluate and structure transactions from an accounting policy perspective
Develop and maintain the company's accounting policy manual and related documentation
Interface with external auditors, regulators, and rating agencies on technical matters
Act as a thought leader and resource to internal stakeholders on complex accounting matters
Provide training and education on accounting policy updates to relevant teams across the organization
What We're Looking For:
CPA designation required
Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in insurance industry accounting, with a strong technical background in life and annuity products
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, LDTI, and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
Prior experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 advisory highly preferred
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
