Oliver James is partnered with a publicly traded P&C carrier seeking a Head of Finance to play a key leadership role partnering with Claims, Finance, and enterprise leadership.
This position will be responsible for driving financial analysis, operational analytics, forecasting, and performance reporting across the Claims organization. The role works closely with executive leadership to translate operational data into actionable insights that improve efficiency, productivity, and financial performance.
This is a highly visible leadership position supporting enterprise initiatives, operational strategy, and long-term financial planning.
Location: Somerset County, NJ – Charlotte, NC – Hartford, CT.
Responsibilities:
* Partner with Claims leadership, Actuarial, and Finance to develop strategies that balance growth, profitability, operational efficiency, and risk management.
* Lead financial planning and forecasting for the Claims organization, including operating plans, budgets, and variance analysis.
* Develop and monitor operational performance benchmarks to evaluate claims effectiveness, service levels, and productivity.
* Provide leadership with insights and reporting on key operational and financial metrics tied to strategic initiatives.
* Build and enhance claims analytics capabilities including staffing models, productivity metrics, and operational reporting.
* Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve operational efficiency, and optimize cost structures.
* Support strategic decision-making by developing financial models, business cases, and scenario analyses for key initiatives.
* Partner with enterprise risk management to monitor and mitigate operational risks within the Claims function.
* Ensure compliance with internal policies and operational governance standards.
* Lead and develop a team responsible for financial analysis, operational reporting, and performance management across Claims.
Qualifications:
* 12+ years of experience in finance, analytics, or operational leadership within the insurance industry.
* Property & Casualty insurance experience a must, ideally with exposure to Claims.
* Demonstrated ability to translate complex operational data into clear insights that influence senior leadership decision-making.
* Experience leading financial planning processes including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
* Proven leadership experience managing teams and leading through influence.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
