Senior Accountant / Manager – Accounting Operations
Life Insurance & Annuity Carrier

As a specialized insurance recruitment partner, we are working with a growing life insurance and annuity carrier that is looking to strengthen its Accounting Operations team with the addition of a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager, depending on experience. This is a high-visibility role within the finance organization and offers the opportunity to play a key part in supporting the company’s continued growth and operational transformation.
The Opportunity
This position sits within the Accounting Operations function, supporting core accounting processes across the life and annuity business. The team is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving improvements across accounting workflows and systems.
The organization is seeking a candidate who can operate both strategically and hands-on, helping to streamline processes while ensuring the integrity of financial results. The level of the role (Senior Accountant vs. Manager) will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities

Support the month-end and quarter-end close process across various accounting areas within the life and annuity business

Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses

Assist with operational accounting activities, including cash, investments, premiums, claims, or policyholder-related accounting depending on team needs

Partner closely with FP&A, actuarial, investment, and finance leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis

Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and automation across the accounting operations function

Support internal and external audits, including documentation of accounting policies and procedures

For Manager-level candidates: provide mentorship and oversight to junior staff and help drive key initiatives within the accounting team
Ideal Background

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

3-5+ years of experience for Senior Accountant level; 6-8+ years for Manager level

Background in public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm) and/or industry experience within insurance or financial services

Experience supporting close processes, financial reporting, and reconciliations

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally

CPA or CPA track preferred
