NEW LEGAL OPPORTUNITY:
Vice President, Assistant General Counsel – Commercial Contracts, Data Privacy & AI [NYC or Long Island]
A global insurance carrier is seeking a corporate attorney with strong law firm training to join its Legal & Compliance team. This role blends commercial contracting, corporate legal support, and data privacy/AI advisory, partnering closely with business stakeholders across the organization.
This is an ideal opportunity for a BigLaw-trained attorney looking to transition in-house for strong work/life balance while maintaining exposure to sophisticated, high-impact legal work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (vendor, technology, and service contracts)
- Advise business teams on contract risk, structure, and negotiation strategy
- Support corporate legal matters, including internal transactions, governance, and strategic initiatives
- Provide guidance on data privacy, data governance, and emerging AI-related compliance
- Review marketing and external communications materials for legal and regulatory risk
- Partner cross-functionally with compliance, HR, and business teams on operational legal matters
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in a top law firm (BigLaw strongly preferred) or a corporate generalist in-house role
- Strong corporate and commercial contracts background
- Experience with data privacy, data governance, or AI-related legal issues
- Exposure to reviewing marketing materials and advising business stakeholders
- Member of the New York State Bar
- Excellent communication skills and ability to operate in a business-facing role
Pluses:
- P&C insurance or reinsurance experience (highly preferred)
- Experience working on cross-border or international matters
Compensation & Location:
- Salary: $180,000 – $225,000 base
- Bonus: ~25% discretionary (with upside based on individual and team performance)
