Corporate Controller – Life & Annuity Insurance
We’re partnering with a highly strategic, private capital-backed life and annuity platform undergoing a significant transformation following a pending acquisition. This is a rare opportunity to join a business at an inflection point, with a mandate to modernize finance, enhance reporting infrastructure, and support the build-out of a next-generation retirement solutions platform.
The organization has a long-standing insurance foundation, strong statutory capital position, and national footprint, and is now focused on delivering innovative, customer-centric guaranteed income products supported by modern technology and operating models.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly and quarterly close across both U.S. STAT and GAAP bases
- Own NAIC statutory reporting, including Quarterly and Annual “Blue Book” filings
- Coordinate and manage external statutory audits
- Partner cross-functionally with Investments, Actuarial, Tax, HR, and third-party administrators
- Support new product launches from an accounting and reporting perspective
- Contribute to board and management reporting
- Build and enhance internal controls and overall financial control environment
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Drive process improvement, automation, and system optimization initiatives
- Provide leadership and mentorship, with plans to build out the team
Profile
- Current or recent Corporate Controller (or equivalent) within the insurance industry
- ~15+ years of experience, ideally within life & annuity environments
- Strong knowledge of NAIC statutory reporting requirements
- Proven experience managing audits and regulatory filings
- Exposure to transformation, build-out, or entrepreneurial environments preferred
- Systems experience (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP)
- Process-oriented with a focus on efficiency, automation, and scalable infrastructure
- Collaborative, hands-on leadership style
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
