Role Purpose

The Network Operations Engineer SLS is responsible for the operational maintenance, deployment, and troubleshooting of core network and enterprise services. This role plays a key part in delivering reliable Layer 2 and Layer 3 services to customers, supporting firewall infrastructure, and ensuring the successful rollout and expansion of NFN network services in collaboration with internal teams and third-party providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform operational maintenance and support of Cisco CPAR devices and Fortigate firewalls, ensuring high availability and security compliance.
  • Deploy and support Business-as-Usual (BAU) enterprise services across core nodes.
  • Implement and troubleshoot network configurations provided by the design team on core network infrastructure.
  • Act as a key contributor to the delivery and troubleshooting of customer-facing services, ensuring minimal disruption and timely resolution.
  • Provision and deliver Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN services to new Provider Edge (PE) locations.
  • Deploy and manage BAU firewall rules on enterprise Fortigate firewalls in line with change and security processes.
  • Support the deployment of key enterprise customer assets in collaboration with field engineers and design teams, including high-profile customers
  • Bring new expansion circuits live and troubleshoot issues in conjunction with the BBNS team and third-party providers.
  • Participate in incident resolution, service assurance, and continuous improvement of operational processes.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience supporting and maintaining Cisco networking devices
  • Hands-on knowledge of Fortigate firewall platforms.
  • Solid understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts, including VPN delivery.
  • Experience working within core network environments and enterprise service deployments.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills across complex network infrastructures.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with design teams, field engineers, and external vendors.
  • Experience delivering services to enterprise or large-scale customers.

Desirable

  • Experience working in an MPLS / service provider environment.
  • Familiarity with L2 and L3 network expansion projects and circuit turn-up processes.
  • Knowledge of operational change management and incident workflows.
  • Exposure to working with high-profile or critical national customers.
