NEW LEGAL OPPORTUNITY: Associate General Counsel – Insurance Regulatory & Corporate [NYC or CT]

A global P&C insurance carrier is seeking an attorney with deep P&C insurance and reinsurance experience to support insurance regulatory compliance and corporate matters across its U.S. operations. This role is ideal for attorneys with BigLaw experience transitioning in-house, or corporate counsel looking to specialize in compliance/regulatory work.

You will manage regulatory filings, product approvals, endorsements, and company-level filings, work closely with state insurance regulators, and provide business-facing guidance on legal and compliance matters. The role also involves supporting corporate governance, internal compliance initiatives, and operational legal matters across U.S. entities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle insurance regulatory and compliance matters across U.S. entities
  • Liaise with state insurance regulators and manage regulatory inquiries, product filings, endorsements, and company filings
  • Support corporate governance, corporate legal matters, and internal compliance initiatives
  • Draft, review, and negotiate general business contracts and advise stakeholders on legal risks
  • Conduct legal research and prepare internal memoranda
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting the business
  • Support cross-border insurance or regulatory matters as needed
  • Assist with broader legal, regulatory, and corporate projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • MUST HAVE: 5+ years of insurance regulatory, compliance, or corporate law experience
  • MUST HAVE: Strong P&C insurance and reinsurance knowledge required
  • MUST HAVE: Experience interacting with state insurance regulators and handling filings (product, endorsements, company)
  • Member of the New York or Connecticut Bar
  • BigLaw or comparable law firm experience strongly preferred
  • Experience drafting and negotiating business contracts
  • Experience with international work is a plus

Benefits:

  • Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 base
  • Bonus: ~20% discretionary (with upside based on individual and team performance)
