Head of Finance Strategy

Oliver James seeks to identify a senior finance executive to lead enterprise performance management, capital management and operational finance initiatives across a growing insurance platform. This position offers meaningful exposure to executive leadership, with direct partnership alongside the CFO to shape financial direction and long-term value creation.

Position Overview

This role plays a pivotal part in aligning financial strategy with business execution and sustainable growth objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Enhancing profitability across products and business segments through disciplined expense management, operational optimization, and capital deployment grounded in return analysis.

  • Owning enterprise capital planning, including allocation strategy, stress testing, ORSA oversight, and solvency analysis to balance expansion with rating agency expectations.

  • Partnering with business unit leaders, actuarial, and operations teams to evaluate investments, assess financial risk, and develop forward-looking financial models that inform strategic decisions.

  • Delivering clear, executive-level reporting – translating complex financial data into concise insights for the CEO, Board, and rating agencies.

  • Modernizing planning and forecasting capabilities through AI-enabled tools, cloud-based EPM systems, and advanced data visualization platforms to strengthen scenario analysis and strategic planning.

Ideal Background

  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience within insurance, spanning corporate finance, treasury, capital management, finance strategy, and/or corporate development.

  • Strong command of financial modeling, stress and scenario analysis, capital adequacy frameworks, and rating agency engagement.

  • Demonstrated success influencing business partners and driving operational improvements that enhance financial outcomes.

  • Ability to communicate technical financial concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively with senior executives in a results-oriented environment.

  • Deep familiarity with regulatory, capital, and operational dynamics within life, P&C, health, or multi-line insurance organizations.

  • CPA or CFA designation preferred.

Additional Details

  • Reporting Line: CFO

  • Location: Remote with periodic travel

  • Compensation: $200,000 – $250,000 base salary plus performance bonus; 6% 401(k) match and full benefits package
