The Commercial Auto Claims Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving a full spectrum of commercial auto claims, including property damage and bodily injury exposures. The position requires strong technical claims handling expertise, sound coverage analysis, and the ability to manage both represented and non-represented claims while delivering a high standard of service.
Duties
- Investigate losses, determine liability, and identify coverage issues
- Handle first- and third-party commercial auto claims from inception through resolution
- Manage a variety of claim types including total loss, fire, theft, glass, cargo, and in-tow exposures
- Review and analyze estimates, reports, medical records, and supporting documentation
- Evaluate and negotiate bodily injury demands (represented and non-represented)
- Establish appropriate reserves and maintain accurate claim valuations
- Issue payments in accordance with claim outcomes and authority levels
- Conduct recorded statements with insureds, claimants, and witnesses
- Draft and communicate coverage positions, including coverage letters where applicable
- Maintain claim files in accordance with best practice guidelines and regulatory standards
- Participate in roundtable discussions and present claim strategies when required
- Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements and regulatory obligations
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Active adjuster license (multi-state preferred; specific state requirements may apply)
- Minimum 5 years of experience handling auto/property damage claims
- Demonstrated experience managing claims involving total loss, cargo, and in-tow exposures from start to finish
- Strong coverage analysis experience, including drafting coverage letters
- Experience handling both attorney-represented and non-represented claims
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage multiple claims, prioritize workload, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Prior vehicle damage appraisal experience preferred
- Consistent track record of high performance
- Flexibility to work aligned with Pacific Time Zone hours and travel occasionally if required
