The Opportunity
Oliver James is partnering with a leading global reinsurer to appoint a Reserving Actuary within their Life & Health business. This is a high-impact role sitting within the Actuarial Function, offering exposure across multiple markets, reporting bases, and senior stakeholders.
This position will suit an actuary who enjoys combining technical depth with commercial insight, and who is motivated by the opportunity to influence decision-making in a collaborative, international environment. You will play a key role in providing independent oversight of reserving while contributing to ongoing improvements in processes, models, and controls.
What You’ll Be Involved In
You will take a leading role in reviewing and challenging reserving outputs, working closely with teams across Risk, Finance, and the first line actuarial function. Your work will feed directly into senior governance forums, giving you regular exposure to committees and leadership.
Alongside this, you’ll contribute to the delivery of actuarial opinions and key regulatory submissions, while supporting the evolution of assumptions, models, and frameworks. The role also offers the opportunity to get involved in wider business activity-such as transactions, data quality initiatives, and global actuarial projects-providing variety and breadth beyond core reserving.

What We’re Looking For
You are a technically strong actuary with a curious mindset and the confidence to challenge and improve existing practices. You’re comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, balancing multiple priorities, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience within Life (re)insurance reserving or valuation will be key, ideally gained in either industry or consulting.
Just as importantly, you bring strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to translate technical concepts into meaningful business insights.
Experience & Qualifications
- Actuarial experience, ideally within Life (re)insurance
- Qualified Actuary (we will consider caniddates with 2-3 exams left to pass)
