Senior Data Centre Infrastructure Engineer
North Yorkshire – Contract, Inside IR35
We are supporting the hire of an experienced Data Centre Infrastructure professional to join a critical operations environment supporting highly available, enterprise-scale systems. This role plays a key part in ensuring data centre resilience, supporting infrastructure build-outs, migrations and ongoing optimisation of mission-critical environments.
This position would suit someone with a strong blend of hands-on data centre technical expertise and infrastructure design, documentation and coordination experience.
The Role
You will be responsible for supporting the availability, reliability and scalability of data centre infrastructure across one or more UK facilities. Working closely with internal technology teams, facilities and external vendors, you will help deliver infrastructure projects while maintaining operational excellence.
Key areas of focus include:
- Data centre build-outs, expansions, and equipment installations
- Hardware, network, and connectivity migrations
- Circuit cutovers and structured cabling projects
- Power, cooling, and space optimisation
- Infrastructure documentation and design validation
- Support high availability and resilience of data centre environments by identifying risks and improving infrastructure reliability
- Design, review, and maintain detailed infrastructure and connectivity documentation
- Develop and validate cabling, power, and layout designs in line with industry standards
- Install and support racks, cabinets, network and compute equipment and structured cabling
- Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and upgrades with vendors and internal teams
- Maintain accurate records of physical and virtual infrastructure, including power and data connectivity
- Apply best practices across data centre engineering, safety and security
- Stay current with industry developments and recommend improvements to existing or future infrastructure
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in an enterprise data centre or other mission-critical technical environment
- Strong knowledge of fibre and copper structured cabling systems
- Understanding of compute, network, storage, telecoms and security infrastructure
- Experience working with data centre power, cooling and space considerations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a live operational environment
- Comfortable producing and maintaining technical documentation
- Proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g. Office and cloud-based collaboration suites)
