Senior Trial Attorney – Insurance [Hybrid – Pittsburgh, PA]
Our client, a well-established and high-tech P&C insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Senior Trial Attorney to join its in-house litigation team supporting insured clients in complex civil defense matters. This role is ideal for a seasoned insurance defense litigator with significant courtroom experience handling high-exposure casualty claims, including commercial auto, premises liability, construction negligence, and complex property damage litigation.
The position offers the opportunity to independently manage a full litigation docket while partnering closely with claims professionals and insured clients to develop and execute effective defense strategies.
Role & Responsibilities
- Independently manage a full docket of insurance defense litigation matters from initial case strategy through resolution or trial.
- Draft and handle pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.
- Represent insured clients in state court proceedings, including hearings, mediations, and trials.
- Evaluate liability and damages exposure, advising internal claims partners on litigation strategy and case resolution.
- Work with expert witnesses such as engineers, accident reconstructionists, and medical professionals in complex or multi-party matters.
- Negotiate settlements and mediations where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate case documentation within a paperless litigation management system and collaborate closely with claims professionals.

Required Experience
- 10-15+ years of civil litigation experience in insurance defense or casualty litigation.
- Significant trial experience before judges or juries.
- Strong background handling multi-party litigation, depositions, expert witnesses, and complex discovery.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Experience partnering with insurance claims teams and managing a high-volume litigation caseload.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of state civil procedure and local court rules.
