Overview
Oliver James has partnered with a global financial data and analytics organisation to recruit a Software Asset & Licensing Manager into their IT Service Management function.

This role will take ownership of the end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM) lifecycle across a complex, enterprise-scale environment. You’ll be responsible for establishing governance, ensuring licensing compliance, and driving optimisation of the software estate to reduce cost and risk.

This is a high-impact position with strong exposure to senior stakeholders, requiring a blend of strategic oversight and hands-on delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement policies, standards, and procedures for Software Asset & Licensing Management
  • Establish governance frameworks to ensure compliance with internal controls and external standards
  • Manage the full lifecycle of software assets from request through to retirement
  • Maintain a centralised and accurate inventory of software assets, contracts, and entitlements
  • Lead software licensing compliance, including internal reviews and external audits
  • Identify opportunities to optimise license usage and reduce overall software spend
  • Partner with procurement, finance, and vendors to manage renewals and licensing agreements

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years’ experience in Software Asset Management, with a focus on licensing and compliance
  • Proven experience leading SAM or Software Lifecycle Management practices
  • Strong understanding of software licensing models (e.g. Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, VMware)
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow SAM or similar ITSM/SAM tooling (e.g. Flexera, Snow)
  • Experience operating within complex, enterprise environments (financial services preferred)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior leadership
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Desirable Skills

  • ITIL certification (v3 or v4)
  • Certifications such as CSAM, CHAMP, or ServiceNow
  • Experience working in Agile or large-scale delivery environments
  • Exposure to offshore or global delivery models
  • Broader experience across IT Service Management disciplines
