Quick Tips 004: Social Media

13 March 2017

by

Social media can be a kiss of death for your application, with 93% of hiring managers using the medium to learn far more about you than you intended.

While seven out of 10 employers would reject you if they found unsavoury content, 68% would actually hire you if they liked your posts. Here are our hints on top social conduct:

  • Treat your page like a digital CV

Write posts that highlight your positive traits, like charity work, unique hobbies or an interest in current events

  • Clean up your content

While your drunken transgressions might be a source of amusement, it’s best to presume they won’t win you a job

  • Apply the relevant security measures

Lock down your friend list; it’s a great way to ensure those compromising photos stay where they should

Don’t feel the need to privatise your profiles. If anything, it’ll look odd that you don’t seem to exist online, so leave some evidence of you. Just make sure it’s the right kind.
