Q: Firstly, welcome to OJ! It’s an exciting time for the Change and Technology market – what is your main goal for OJ and how do you plan on achieving it?
A: Change and Technology excites us. It’s what motivates us. It’s a competitive market out there, but we feel we have what it takes to be the number one recruiter in this space. How we do that is quite simply through our level of service. We’ve got 25 years of experience within Change and Technology between us and we’re both so invested in this market, which allows us to engage with our clients and candidates as peers.
Q: It’s really refreshing to see that you’re both still so passionate about Change & Technology. This leads to our next question, what makes OJ different from other recruitment companies you have worked for?
A: Well, we like to describe Oliver James as a start-up with the support of a big powerhouse behind it. We have been given a great opportunity to establish a new brand in the London Lloyd’s market and put our own personal stamp on it, which doesn’t often happen in companies that have such a strong existing presence in the market.
Q: So what can people expect when they work with Oliver James Associates?
A: Change and Technology is such a relationship-driven world, so we want to take our experience and use it to build long-standing relationships with clients. We don’t want to take a purely reactive approach to this market. We want to work with organisations for the long haul – offering a completely proactive service, embedding ourselves in the business so we can assist with any change projects; be that now or in six months’ time.
Q: And how is your approach different to your competitors operating in this market?
A: LinkedIn is a great tool for finding great candidates, but our reach goes way beyond that. We have access to 60% more candidates than can be found online by immersing ourselves into talent pools that would otherwise go untouched. We headhunt the best candidates and use our understanding of the market to ask the right questions, so we can tailor our service to the individual, using our position in the market to approach organisations that will best suit the candidate.
Q: And if you could say anything to your prospective clients in the Lloyd’s market, what would it be?
A: When we make a promise, we always deliver. This statement sounds so simple, but experience has taught us that it doesn’t always happen in the recruitment industry. Integrity is so important to us. The change market is going to be huge this year and we want our connections to know that we’re invested and ready to provide a career service you won’t find anywhere else. We understand this industry like no other and we love what we do. We can count on one hand the number of competitors who have been in operating in this space for so long.
